New Endo?
Heather Guy
Hi all, I started clomid this cycle (all of our fertility tests came back normal, but the doctor gave me the option anyhow since it's been almost a year and I took it). I won't know if it worked until about November 8th or so, but if it does, I'm a bit concerned about my endocrinologist....

Re: Questions for pre-preg consultation
Hayley
I know I'm late to respond but there are a few points to consider. One reason that the complication rate seems to be so low statistically is that most patients/physicians strive for good glycemic control. Over the last 20 years with the improvement in therapies, this has become more feasible and...

Re: 3rd trimester blood sugars
Hayley
This is a normal phenomenon in women with type 1 diabetes (and actually many of those without). In the 3rd trimester, the placenta makes more hormones that work "against" insulin and increase your resistance to it. Though it is is common, it should still be taken very seriously! I think my...

Re: For all those T1 moms or moms to be out there
Hayley
I would caution everyone to e cautious about trying to make medical decisions based on clinical research that they find. There are are lot of data to sort through and it takes a lot of experience to really determine which is valid and accurate (good quality stuides). You are bound to meet women who never...

Re: Diet
Hayley
It depends on how sophisticated you are and your approach to therapy. I ate whatever I wanted, when I wanted. It takes foresight and progressively longer lag times. I used Symlin for my last two trimesters and it made a tremendous difference as I became more and more insulin resistant. One tool that...

Re: Being pregnant and on the pump
Hayley
Oh I cannot imagine upper arm! I wore a pump for two pregnancies, have 2 healthy boys, 1 of which tested positive for the higher risk gene only. Children of mothers with Type 1 diabetes have a 3% increased risk of developing the disease whereas children of fathers have a 7% chance. At least those were...

Re: Diabetes management and Labor
Hayley
Manuela - All are very good questions. I had both of my children at 37 weeks and 3 or 4 days for that reason. In mothers with diabetes, the placenta ages more quickly than in one without diabetes, despite the glycemic control throughout pregnancy. As the placenta ages, it proves increasingly suboptimal...

Re: Blood sugars at beginning of pregnancy
Hayley
Hi there - Actually there have been several studies examining blood glucose levels in menstruation cycles. Certain points during the cycle tend to yield more insulin resistance than others. Because pregnancy forgoes the cyclical hormones, it also bypasses this initial insulin resistance. Typically a...
