I want my California grandson to visit me in Michigan during the summer. He is 8 years old and wears a pump, but has low numbers at night. What should I know and do so that he has fun on his vacation with me?
Well, what I would do is make sure to give him a 15-20 carb snack before bed maybe that would help prevent a low blood sugar during the middle of the night. Just make sure you always have fast acting glucose or juice on hand at all times just in case of a low during the day and if you are going on long trips make sure you have extra supplies with you too.

My daughter also tests low at night, and she is not yet on the pump. It is true to give the child a 15 to 20 carb snack, but remember to give something that will fill up the stomach. I usually give my daughter a protein snack along with the carb snack. That usually will hold her through the night. However, I do get up in the middle of the night and check her just incase she runs low.
