  • Hi, My name is Mel and I have a son with Type 1.  He was just 3 when he was diagnosed two years ago in November.  He was sick with a virus and started peeing a lot at night and begging for water all the time.  I am a nurse, knew the signs, borrowed a glucometer, tested his blood and we headed to the ER.  We were very fortunate to have caught it early.  He started on an insulin pump Jan 1st of 2008 and we love it!!!  Our biggest problem is finding fat to insert the cannula into.  Jack is in Kindergarten and is doing great.  He loves school and does a great job being responsible about his eating.  He doesn't check his own blood yet or mess with his pump but he knows how to tell when he is low and knows not to take candy and treats from people without checking with me or his teacher first.  I dont' have a lot of support in our town, it is small so I am always looking for online groups to bounce ideas off of and learn from.

  • Mel,

You will find a lot of great resources here, welcome!

    Cheers,

    A-D
