Courtenay the class was having a test on sleep(we had no study time or warning). one of the questions was like can diabetes(didnt mention wich kind) and other diseases be caused by a lack of sleep? my teacher said yes it can! i was telling her i have diabetes and it was not caused by a lack of sleep. type 2 may be but type 1 certainly isnt. my pancreas did not stop working because i didnt get enough sleep! and the teacher is like well(the sign that you have to think to win!) type 2 is in the categorie of diabetes... uggh!

That reminds me that just the other day, on a health survey one of the questions asked what weight-training/lifting can positively impact health. One of the multiple-choice answers listed was 'prevention of diabetes.' I groaned inwardly as I really cannot stand it when diabetes is referenced as such a general topic, especially when it's ridiculous to think that lifting weights can prevent diabetes (hey, if that were true, and I knew I'd get diabetes -- I might as well have just become a body builder and dodge that bullet to begin with!). On the outside I just smiled, but I snuck a winking smiley face next to that option and wrote "Hah!" (underlined). Ahh, the subtle ways we speak up ;)

It gets very annoying to me, also! I am the only type 1 diabetic in our entire school. Most of my teachers/friends thinks that they can tell me what to eat and when to eat it. My closest friends and a few of my close teachers understand. However, some of my classmates think that it is not acceptable if I eat any sugar at all. The other day, we had a foods day in speech class, and most of the food was made of sugar and I decided that I wanted a tiny piece...A boy in my class thought it would be appropriate to say, "You have diabetes...You can't eat that!!" It just drives me crazy!!
I'm very good about controlling my diabetes and my diet. I follow it 99.5% of the time! I mean, my last a1c was 5.6!
Blessings!
What's the worst is when you answer someone's questions and they keep asking the same question over and over again. At work I explained that my pump is not a glucometer but whenever I'm bolusing I hear the question "oh what's your blood like?" even after I showed the separate machine that does that. Also annoying are comments such as: "Oh, are you drinking that because your sugar is high/low?" when, you know, oftentimes people drink things for the mere consumption of drinking. I drink Diet Coke because I prefer it to Root Beer, and I rather not drink the latter just because it would be a waste of insulin. It has nothing to do with my blood sugar at the time.
General segregation in that respect is just annoying.
Nikki I hate it when people ask questions like "does it hurt" DUH it hurts lol ur not making it better! one girl at school even asked me if i was sad that i would have diabetes forever!!!!lol and i definatly hate it when people ask if i shud be eatin something! i no wat i can eat so dont be askin me!!

It is also so annoying when people ask does it hurt and where do you take your shota and stuff like that. Also it annoying that the nurse at my school has to calculate the carbs and junk when i already no it.

I remember in 4th grade, I had to explain to my teacher, her aide, and 3 other people that diabetes wasn't contagious, and I had to spend all day in the library because a PTA mom said my shots might upset the other kids in class, and then had the audacity to give me that nasty 50/50 chocolate stuff in a goodie bag. this was right after I started Lantus/Humalog . Thank god for the insulin pen, I was always being asked if I was an addict when I used the syringes. And every new school I went to (we move a LOT) I had to go through the same thing over and over again. I finally ended up dropping out this year (I'm starting college about this time next year) because the school board is trying to say I was skipping school, and having fun. I bet at least 99% of you know that having high and low blood glucose is just a blast! I wish that SOMEONE would do a documentary or something on kids and teens with diabetes, like they do with everything else, mabey someone would finally get it through their head about this.
I know i hate when people try to give ME advice about diabeties when this is the first time they heard of it, people say should you be eating that. but to the person with the last post i missed alot of school to i just couldnt keep up so i had to be home schooled starting at 10th grade if your intrested heres the website i really like it its pretty easy. www.americanschoolofcorr.com check it out hope you like it
I hate when people ask me the same stupid questions like,"Does it hurt?" ....NO!!! I LOVE POKING MYSELF 3+ TIMES A DAY FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE, YOU SHOULD TRY IT SOMETIME!!!
Diabetes is L-A-M-E
obviously. that one is probably most constant. I also dont enjoy it when girl start screaming when i inject myself. its quite hard on the ear-drums. people can be so insensitive.
heather08bbyI have the one that you get by genetics..not by being fat(:
WE AREN'T FAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
When I meet somebody who knows I'm diabetic but hasn't seen a picture of me, they always say "Wow, you're skinneir than I thought!" And I'm like, "Yeah, and you have a big nose." (I don't actually say that, but I think it!) I can't stand people thinking I'm fat. AGH!
"I am beautiful in every single way/words can't bring me down/I am beautiful today"
I agree with you ALL! Sometimes people, even in FRONT of my parents who know more that they do and care about me more, tell me "NO STOP EATING THAT!! YOU CAN HAVE THAT!!" Im like dude, I have been doing this for about 4 years not, I know what I can and will have, and what I cant and wont have. Its so annoying! Once and my best friends party, there was this guys mom that knew I had diabetes. I has checked for a slice of cake, 144ish.. she just came up to me and snached my slice from me and said. "I will tell your parent you were eating cake! You cant have cake! Do you want to die?!" I used so much energy to contain myself. I know they want to help but they cannot me our Diabetic Police! Thats what we are for, and our parents. We know what is best. Sometimes not even another diabetic can tell us whats bad for us cuz most diabetics are different.. Anyways, I agree with Amber, these questions, out-of-the-blue-sugestions, and I-know-better-than-you-even-thou-im-not-a-diabetic actions are very annoying!
