If your on a pump it's easy to just give an extra bolus, and if your on injections give extra novolog. If you're not on novolog/humalog/apidra or whatever other fast acting insulins they have I woud recommend talking to your doctor about adding it. I was on regular and NPH originally and novolog made things so much easier because it's easy to give extra for extra food and it brings down highs quicker. good luck =)

Forum Post: Re: Stomach fat from Insulin?

ok relpying really late but ive been diagnosed almost 5 yrs ago and have had a pump site for 4 yrs. and the pump site has been on my stomach for 2-3 years now but i have all this stomach fat i want to get rid off (or scar tissue). is there any way to get rid of it? the only problem is that i love the absorption the stomach has for insulin. is there anywhere else with better or the same absorbtion?

Forum Post: Re: How many carbs for a slice of pizza?- The unanswered question!

Sometimes pizza kills blood sugars because all of the fat makes the carbs absorb later so, for me, i can be fine for the 2 hours my insulin is active and go high a little bit after that, or I might even go low originally and high later. There isn't a "normal" dose. I had a friend growing up who was diagnosed w/in months of me and she always needed less insulin than I did. Insulin needs change all the time depending on your activity, your hormones, the time of day ect. I haven't changed my activity at all and I just dropped my ratios from 1:10 and 1:11 to 1:7 all day. . . It happens. It's totally normal. The most important thing is that your not going too low or too high. As long as you feel good, it doesn't matter if you need 4 units or 7 units to cover the snack.

Forum Post: Re: Where do you give your injections?

Talk to your doctor. Sounds like you might be having some sort of allergy or absorption issues. Are you using an insulin pen? May need to use a longer needle.

I did shots for 25 years (5x a day for the last 10) and didn't have the problems you've had. Primarily used my stomach, which was nice and flat until I had a baby. Try anywhere you can reach, including your arms. You might also consider an iPort, which allows you to use the same site for a day or so.

Forum Post: WDD!

Happy World Diabetes Day!
