As you know, if you’ve been reading about Bradley and Me, Bradley is my medical alert dog for my Type 1 diabetes. As a medical alert dog, Bradley goes with me just about everywhere. The ability to take him with me is provided as a right under the Americans with Disabilities Act often referred to as the A.D.A. (Not to be confused with the American Diabetes Association.) This law allows service dogs the ability to go into any area that the general public has access to including restaurants (even buffets), movies, all modes of public transportation including taxis, the theatre, amusement parks and bars and pubs. It may not be a good idea to take a service dog to all of these places and the handler would need to use their discretion. There are some exceptions to this including churches, some areas of hospitals, i.e. an operating room, and of course private homes. This right is referred to as “access.” (continued at http://www.bradleyandme.net/?p=1879)
