Controlling High Blood Sugars....

  • Comments 4

So I have this problem where my blood sugar to sky rocket, and it takes me FOREVER to get them back down. It's not always enough to just check and give a correction of insulin. And it's also frusturting because my doctor doesn't really know whats going on with it at the moment. He has me changing my doses all the time to see if that helps, but as of yet nothing really has. Does anybody have any tricks that helps them bring their blood sugars down along with insulin?

Don't get me wrong, insulin does work! Just not always, and as fast as it should. Any thoughts??

  • When I have that happen I dramatically change my carb load to very small amounts fr 3 days and it seems to reset my ratios better.  Vegetarian diet is very easy to manage with insuling.  Be sure you don't have another inflammatory illness like arthritis brewing  or a yeast infection without symptoms that can really screw up your blood sugars.  If you are super high I bet you have a yeast infection constantly.  See you ob/gyn.

  • wow! thanks! I have never thought of that one! I will be sure to check on that! Thanks again! :)

  • Something else to consider ... hormones mess with blood sugar A LOT. Keep track and see if yours sky rockets just prior to your period. I have to pump massive amounts of insulin (raise my basal and do extra bolus corrections) to bring it down during those few days. Never figured this out until I went on CGM and saw the pattern. I think this happens to a lot of women and they have no idea why. I know I didn't for more than 20 years. Check it out. Good luck.

  • How long is FOREVE? Because when i get high it feels like forever :/ but I always thought it took 2-3 hours to correct :/ x__x
