Food questions???

  • Comments 1

So I work really hard to feed my little girl the right kinds of food, but sometimes I want her to just be a kid. Like this morning when we all got to sleep in and have a family day. When we got up she wanted to have french toast, which we rarely have in our house. Now since she has been diagnosed there have been certain foods that I have realized make her blood sugar go pretty high even with the correct insulin dosage. Syrup, even sugar free syrup and kiwis are two that I have really noticed. Does anyone have any suggestion for substitution of these foods or insulin dosing to help avoid the highs that come along with them???? I want her to be able to enjoy these things but I hate the highs they give her. Any ideas are appreciated.

  • Is your daughter using an insulin pump?

If so, some of the extended bolus options might be really helpful in this case.

Also, something I've noticed with myself, Pancakes!  I love em but don't eat them often bc they cause my BG's to go insane IF I use the carb info on the box and/or a carb factor.

So for a few weekends in a row we had pancakes and tried out different carb factors until we got one that worked the best for me....Now when I do indulge in a few pancakes my BG's are a lot less wacky afterwards.

Also, adding some protein to that meal may help - like some scrambled eggs or a few pieces of breakfast meat.

    :)
