Walk to Cure Diabetes!

  • Comments 2

Here in the midwest, my Walk was March 7th. We barely raised any money, just under $200. Every little bit helps, I know, and I wanted it to be more... but honestly? That day was for me, more than anything. Next year I want to do all I can for fundraising and really bring in some money, but as you know, this is my re-entry in to the world of T1D. It's been tough. I've fallen off the handle. The other day, my meter read "high glucose." But I'm working hard at it. My best friend noticed. After the walk he said to me, you know you are doing extremely well. I never even saw you carry your diabetic bag with you before all this. And that struck me in a way. At the walk, i had 9 people walking with me. For me. Because I matter to them and T1D is so important to me. And I wanted to say thank you to them. And thank you to you too. Because I don't think that I would have the strength of bravery required if not for those people who would walk with me on my first Walk to Cure Diabetes in 10 years. I don't think I would be able to get through my bad D days without being able to get on here and take solace in your stories. Nads messaged me, noticing I have been silent lately. I keep checking in, but haven't written. But the fact that I was noticed in such a thing like an online community, where you wouldn't expect a connected camaraderie, it is here. That is the very thing, I think, that keeps us all going through our hard times with T1D or anything at all. Support is so necessary for survival, and we of course feel that every day. So thanks to you, for giving me another place to feel connected to, and supported by. I love you all!

  • That is great that you raised that much, especially your first time at this..I am so proud of you!

It does help to have others that you can talk to and turn too when you are going through something diabetes related...Support is so Necessary as you say.

    God Bless,

    Tina

  • I just came on here yesterday and am amazed at the support of everyone here.  You said you weren't taking very good care of your T1D before, and now you are.  But you also said you visited here a few times.  So you do care.  And you care about others as well.

thank you.  Thank you for caring for my son, and for getting back to caring for you.  My son's Dx day was only a year ago, but knowing that someone out there is still supportive of others after 10 years means that although T1D stinks, we are all together and care for one another.

    thank you
