HI, I AM JUST WONDERING ABOUT THE OMNIPOD...I JUST PARTICIPATED IN A WALK FOR JDRF AND FOUND SOME INFORMATION ABOUT IT. WHAT I AM WONDERING AND SO IS MY 10 YEARS OLD GRANDSON, WHO WAS JUST RECENTLY DIAGNOSED IS WHY DOESN'T EVERYONE USE THE OMNIPOD. IT SOUNDS SO SIMPLE, NO WIRES, NO NEEDLE. WE ARE JUST WONDERING IF IT SOUNDS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE..MY GRANDOSN HAS A WHILE BEFORE HE CAN GO ON ANY PUMP. HE IS VERY ATHLETIC AND THE OMNIPOD SOUNDS PERFECT..ANYONE WITH INFORMATION ABOUT IT?? IS IT TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE???
Hi Grandma,
I have Type 1 diabetes for several years now and my father and brother have it as well. They were 1 years old and 12 years old respectively so I grew up with Diabetes all around.
In answer to your question, here in Quebec adults are not covered for an insulin pump, only children so therefore at $5000 I cannot afford one.
Hope your grandson will be able to get his soon and good luck to him.
Jodi
HI GRANDMA ... I DONT LIKE THE OMNIPOD SIMPLY BECAUSE IT IS BULKY .. ..THE PUMP I HAVE I WEAR IN A POCKET OR IN MY BRA BUT THE OMNIPOD IS INFUSED INTO THE SKIN.. SO WHEREVER YOU INFUSE IT, YOU HAVE THIS 'BUMP'
I AM A GRANDMA WHO HAS HAS JUV/DIABETES FOR 51 YEARS AND WHAT PROGRESS I HAVE SEEN SINCE 1958!! ~Annette~
We had the good fortune to have a specialist at DuPont Hospital present 3 unbiased reviews of pumps: Animas, Medtronics, and Omnipod. At the time, my daughter was insitent that we go with Omnipod because Nick Jonas of The Jonas Brother's fame used it. We ultimately went with Medtronics because we believed (and believe) it's a better developed product. My daughter plays Lacrosse, Field Hockey, and she's a swimmer.
