Hello fellow diabetics (and family/friends of us diabetic folk). I am brand spanking new to this site (just joined about 10 minutes ago) and my technology skills are stuck in 1996, so forgive me if this is not where I should be posting such things :)
Are there any other diabetics out there who suffer from Thryoid Eye Disease? I was diagnosed a year ago and it's so frusterating. It is NOT the same as hyper or hypo thyroidism, as it affects the eye, only. It causes double vision and some headaches and there is NO cure. The only help is iv steroids (solumedrol) but any diabetic out there knows that this will drive up a non diabetic's sugar thru the roof. My non diabetic patients have to be put on a sliding scale while receiving this medication at the hospital. I took solumedrol once and it drove my sugars over 400, no THANK YOU. I've been DKA once in my 24 year affair with the lovely diabetes, never again. So now I must go to an Optho Neurologist every 6 weeks to check the inflamation in my eye and now I must wear a "prisim" on the lenz of my glasses (which stinks because I LOVED wearing contacts).
Anyhow, I could go on forever about this, but I would love to hear any feedback. It would be wonderful if there were others out there suffering from this too. We could complain together :)
Regards,
Erin
