Finger-Pricks are a Literal Pain!

  • Comments 3

Hey, guys. I'm new to juvenation, new to diabetes (3 weeks).  I could really use some advice.  My problem is the finger-pricks.  It used to be easy for me, just CLICK and the blood would come.  But lately, it seems I'm either feeling nothing and getting no blood or getting blood but paying the price with MAJOR PAIN.  I've bruised my fingers a couple times, and am getting kind of nervous whenever I have to check my blood sugar.

I asked a diabetic friend about it, and she said that she just pokes herself with the bare lancet, not using the pricker thing.  Is this a way to go?  And if so, how do you do it?

Any advice would be appreciated.

  • Did your lancing device come with another cover?  There are covers that you can put on the lancing device and you can use this to stick your forearm....could be another possibility.  Maybe you just need to give your fingers a break and time to build up a callous.  Try checking on your forearm and see what happens.  Just a suggestion!  Good Luck!  Keep us posted.  Welcome to the Type 1 Club and Juvenation!

  • I know what you are talking about. Maybe wash your hands before you test with really warm water and then just massage your fingers a little pushing the blood up before you even test...seems to work for me...
