I'm new to diabetes. I was just diagnosed a month ago. I went into the emergency room with a blood sugar of 408 and went back to school later that week. I got through a week of school perfectly fine with slightly high sugar levels but two weeks after my diagnosis i suddenly felt dizzy, tired and slightly nauseous. I felt like i had low blood sugar even though i was on normal levels I couldn't get out of bed for two days because i felt so sick. Any new diabetics feel this way?
My doctor now has changed my carb ratio and i'm feeling better on higher levels. She thinks that i was feeling so sick because i was high for months before getting diagnosed and my body didn't react to the fast drop too well.
Also, for the last week or so i've been feeling really stressed. I've been missing a lot of class time because i've been getting low a lot lately and i'm out of class for about an hour each day. I'm nervous that it's affecting my grade. any suggestions to help calm down?
Hi Serena! I have been a type 1 diabetic for what feels like FOREVER (afterall 31 years is a long time), but I remember what it was like to be a kid with it - not fun at all! It takes some time to get your glucose levels ajusted, but you'll get there.
I know how hard it is to manage your diabetes, your school work, and family life, but just try to take one day at a time. I promise you, it will get easier. I have to agree with your doctor about the dizziness and nausea symptoms. Your body just has to adjust to the controlled blood sugars, but it will, and then you won't feel this way all of the time. Try not to stress out, just do your best and it will all be okay. :)
hi serena, im in high school and ive only been a diabetic for about a year and a half so i remember when i felt like that 2. sometmes i still miss class because of my sugar but its gotten better over time because my body has adjusted to it. if u havnt already u could give each 1 of ur teachers a ziplock bag with some snacks in it so if u feel low then u can just ask ur teacher for something from thier.
