My wife and I are expecting our first child. Of course we are extremely excited and are going through names, etc. I was diagnosed with T1 about a year and a half ago, and my mother-in-law asked my wife what the chances are of it being passed on to the child. I think this is a completely valid question, but I don't have all the facts. I've heard that the percentage is much lower if the father rather than the mother has T1. Please let me know if you have the percentages/facts. Thanks for all your help.
im not sure if this will help but when i went to diabetes camp and we had a dance with teh boys diabetes camp they said that two diabetics having kids together isnt that high of a chance of having a diabetic kid... idk if this helps you and i think it was arund a 6-14% chance if my memory serves me correctly
I asked my wife's doctor this question when she was pregnant with our daughter and was told that the chances are not high at all. Also I have an uncle (Not blood related) that is diabetic and neither of his kids have diabetes. I would like to beleive and hope that my daughter will never get it! Anyways congrats on your baby. Hope he/she stays healthy.
Thanks for the responses. I thought the chances were low. I have a tough time some days, and I just don't want to see any child go through dealing with T1. I have tons of respect for the kids with T1, and my heart goes out to each and every one of them. Stay strong!
Thanks for your kind words Bryan.
