So I wanted to remind you that if you're interested in applying to the 2011 Children's Congress that you do it before 5 pm (EDT) this Monday, October 4!If you know someone who might interested, then please ask them to apply ASAP via the CC11 website or the Facebook application.I also wanted to share a message Madison sent to all of you, see below for her message and video!
FROM MADISON:
I’m Madison Hobbs. I’m 8 years old and I live in Ontario, Oregon. I like to clog, swim, play piano and soccer, go to school and read, and I have diabetes. I was diagnosed last December, and my mom and dad and I are learning how to live with diabetes in our family. Sometimes it is hard, but I know that there are other kids who are doing the same things I have to do, and that makes it a little bit easier.I’m really excited to be one of the delegates for the 2011 Children’s Congress in Washington, D.C.. I can’t wait to meet all the other kids like me and talk to my state senators and representatives. I want to tell them my story and ask them to help us find a cure for diabetes.
Good luck and thank you Madison!
Glad you won! My daughter also applied, she is 11 and has JD. Have fun in Washington!
Thanks for speaking for us Madison!
Good luck Madison, Im glad you won. Go to Washington and meet the other beautiful kids like yourself and have fun advocating for us!!!
Good Luck Madison! The last 20 years have been full of promises that the cure is only 5 years away. My sister-in-law who has been type one for 40 years now says that she has heard that "less than 5 years" promise for 40 years! Yes the management has improve exponentially over the last 20 years, but managing diabetes is HARD WORK ALL THE TIME 24 /7 /365. So go tell your story, and any others you know. Have fun and enjoy yourself!
Congrats Madison! You are one lucky girl to have won this opportuniity to talk with Congress. Tell them to not let your beautiful face fool them. That even with a bright smile you are dealing with diabetes everyday just like my son Matthew who was diagnosed almost 5 years ago. Tell Congress that you will NEVER get a break from your diabetes like they get a break to go on vacation. Keep your message strong Madison and stay healthy!
The problem of managing diabetes if you become or are physically or mentally handicapped increase, too. Because people with diabetes are living longer and longer the years of managing diabetes are also increasing. The expense of the disease is also increasing. We are in a no win situtation, folks. A cure must be found . . . soon. Solidarity forever.
Dearest Madison I am so sorry that you have diabetes. It can be sooo frustrating at times. Both my children are diabetec. My son, Christian was diagnosed at 18 months. He is 10 now, and wears a pump. My daughter was just diagnosed 2 months ago. She is 17 months. Go tell the senators and congress we need help. Thank you.
Madison you are a very brave and strong little girl.I know this is a true fact because my daughter is 14 and is type one.Thank you for taking our message to congress, which is so vital to all diabetics. Please explain how difficult it is to never get a break from this awful disease.I truly believe that a normal life for us all is within reach.
Madison, we wish you good luck in Washington! Please tell them a cure must be found for my 12 yr old son, for you and all the other's who deal every single day & night with this awful disease. Stay strong and take good care of your diabetes!
Congratulation Madison!! You are a very brave and determined young lady!! My daughter has Type 1 diabetes also. She was 14 and had just started high school when she was diagnosed. She is now in college and like yourself she struggles everyday with this disease. I pray someday real soon that you kids can lead a more normal life and be freed from all the needles and test strips. How wonderful would that be?!?!? Thank you Madison for going to Washington and fighting for all the kids with Type I. We are behind you all the way sweetie......Good Luck!!!
Madison,
I know it's so hard to have diabetes. I have watched you for the past years. I also know that you have told your parents that you don't want to be a diabetic anymore. It's not a fun disease and something that you have to deal with 24/7/365. I sincerely hope that a cure for diabetes can be found. You are a brave girl and I know that you will fight stand up for JD in Congress. Tell them of all the support you are receiving and how hard it is to get a break from this awful disease. Let them know that research money must be set aside to aid in the discovery of a cure so that you and your type I friends can live a life just like everyone else. I'm proud of you sweetheart and I'm so glad you're my granddaughter. Now go represent everyone with this disease. You're a brave little girl.
Congratulations Madison! I am sure you will be a fabulous advocate for Oregon in Washington DC this summer at CC 2011. We live in Bend, Oregon and my two sons, Brian and Bradley, were chosen for CC 2007 and we all had a wonderful and rewarding time. All the Oregon Congress members were so supportive to help us find a cure for type 1 diabetes. Good luck and we will be cheering you on as you go to Washington DC to help us all find that cure!
Hi JDRF advocates! October was a busy month here at JDRF Advocacy! Check out what you may have missed
