85% T1Ds Are Adults…

  • Comments 4

Yesterday, our JDRF Advocacy page on Facebook posted a little factoid, ‘…currently, adults make up approximately 85% of those living with type 1 diabetes,’ and then we asked, ‘Are you a T1D adult, T1D teen, or a parent of a T1D? We'd love to know what you think and how T1D impacts you!’

Nearly 160 people responded with their thoughts and we wanted to take a moment to thank YOU for your comments. (I share some of them below, but you can read all of them on our JDRF Advocacy page on Facebook!)

As a JDRF staffer, your thoughts are inspirational not only because of the hope you have but your willingness to share it with others as well. Many comments also reflected your willingness to work tirelessly and efficiently with a commitment to never stop until we get to a cure. For all of this, I THANK YOU… it’s enough fuel to keep JDRF staffers, like our Advocacy team, to keep working just as hard as you in this New Year. There is much to be done but your support is the inspiration behind our efforts… here’s to another year of better management of T1D and our steps toward a cure!

Hasan

(ps, I didn’t forget about those that are having a difficult time with T1D… I want you to know that our little T1D community at JDRF understands and is always willing to share the hope we have in us with YOU… so thanks, also, for sharing some of the obstacles you face!)

  • My 21 year old son was diagnosed 1 year ago this month.  He landed in ICU for 3 days with Diabetic KetoAcidosis.  He was back in college 7 days later.  He manages his disease like a champ.  A1C at 1 year was 5.2.  I am very proud of him.  He doesn't want a pump right now......I would guess he will someday. We pray for a cure everyday.

  • Mom of a son with type 1 diabetes. He was diagnosed at just 19 months old he is now 13 years old.

  • Last week, we told you that currently 85% of T1Ds are adults and this little piece information generated

  • Mother of 6 year old girl who was diagnosed at 20 months. Life is difficult sometimes but she is sooo happy! She is on a pump also. Wish there was more education on type 1 for teachers and not just the school nurse but we manage :)
