  • i'm going away on a plane fr the first time nxt month since i got diabetes. instead of going on a pump vacation like i wanted, i agreed with my parents to stay on my pump as long as we got a loaner pump to make me feel safe in case mine broke. then, we get a call from minimed saying i cant have a loaner b/c i'm not going out of the country and they can have a replacement wherever i am within 24 hours. however, my CDE said i could get a loaner

  • as far as i know, animas is the only company that offers a loaner pump. i've never taken advantage of the loaner pump, though. you'll probably be just fine without one. the odds of you significantly damaging it in this one week are pretty slim.

enjoy your vacation, though! i'm sure it's going to be fun no matter what happens :o)

  • "One more reason"? I'm sorry to hear you are having issues. I have nothing but great experiences with Minimed.

When traveling, you should always have extra insulin and syringes with you, hopefully your CDE also told you this. If something happens, they will have one to you in less than 24 hrs - I know, I've had 2 replacements - and you will have the supplies to cover the time. Pump vacations are tough, and you don't want to have to deal with all the variables on your first vacation since D. The loaner's not something to worry about, just go have a great vacation.

  • Where are you going?  They can overnight a pump to you almost anywhere that you are.  I had an issue while I was on vacation - called at around 3pm and there was a new pump on my doorstep before noon the next day.  And yes, have syringes and insulin with you (just in case) to get you through the few hours without a pump.

  • The pump vacation could be nice. However, it also means you have to adjust to a different routine again. The chances of your pump having an epic fail while on vacation are slim to none. I echo the sentiments of having over back up supplies as you travel. As C stated I only think that Animas offers the vacation loaner. I mean having a backup is its own stress, making sure you have it with you, that it works, that you have your basal's ready to program, granted writing your basal's down before travel is a good idea.

    Enjoy the vacation.
