  • 20 years ago today I was diagnosed with T1 diabetes. I was 15 months old. It's crazy to think that I have had it for 20 years now. It doesn't seem that long. But i'm glad that i'm healthy and happy. :D

  • Congratulations! My 19 year diabetes-versary is at the end of the month. Next year I wanna have a party for my 20th!

I am a person with diabetes, NOT a diabetic!!!

  • that would be awesome.. what would u do for it? and thanx :) congrats to u too

  • I work with someone who has had diabetes for almost 15 years and we have talked about what we would want to do for a 20th diabetes-versary party. Our main ideas are to only serve things that are free foods, that we can eat anytime...cheese, pickles, olives, veggies. Instead of presents, we would want people to donate to the JDRF.

  • While Nikki's idea is admirable, I've always thought for diabetes anniversaries we should eat giant pieces of cake and see who has the best carb counting and bolus skills!

Congrats on your 20 years with D.  You're young, but have an impressive accomplishment having dealt with diabetes for that length of time.  Take care and hopefully you will do something to celebrate.

  • i think both sound awesome :) im thinking about inviting a few of my friends over to watch movies... i do  want to do something.. my mom feels its jinxing it though.. but i think it would be fun.. and thanx.. 20 years down and many more to go :)

  • Is having a birthday party jinxing that you won't be there to have another one? No, it's celebrating another year of life. That's the way I feel about having diabetes-versary parties...it's celebrating a milestone in living with your disease. My family doesn't quite get celebrating it either. My friends and co-workers do, though, even the ones who don't have diabetes. Have fun and do what you want to do to celebrate your accomplishment....I don't think it's jinxing it! And remember...now you're only 5 years away from getting your 25 year medal :-).

  • Congrats Tawnya! Can't say I ever celebrated 20, 30 or even 40. But am looking forward to 50
