Hi Meme, Yes that is correct that from age 19 until now I really haven't been diagnosed with a type of diabetes. When I was first diagnosed they just slapped the label of Type II on me because I had weight issues. I was tested about a year later and they still "weren't sure". Then finally, in December, I went to see a new doctor who had me tested, yet again, and he determined that I was in fact Type I because my pancreas was producing insulin levels at less than 0.2 and if I had been Type II I should have been producing levels of at least 10-15. I had blood and urine tested when I last went to him and he was able to determine this based on those tests. I'm not sure what the test is called but I'm sure if you asked to have his insulin production level tested they would know what to do. Good luck with that. And thank you, I'm glad I joined too. I seriously need all the help I can get - I am not yet a very good diabetic ;-)

Meme, Bart and I thank you for the kind comments about His Majesty. So you are owned by felines also. He is my pal... he follows me around the house and stays right by my side all day as I work in my studio. A large black paw occasionally reaches out to tap me when he feels he is not being given adequate attention. :o) He is a BIG boy... 19 pounds but no fat on him. Just a huge cat. He was diagnosed back in the early summer as being diabetic with a glucose level of over 400. I put him on Lantus insulin and immediately switched his food from dry to canned foods that have 4-6 percent carbs (dry foods have a much higher percentage of carbs, from what I have read). After a few weeks of hypoglycemia happening fairly often, I was able to lower his insulin dose until the vet and I finally just removed the insulin altogether. His levels remain comfortably low (86 the last time we checked him) without insulin. So he is a diet-controlled type 2, i suppose. Don't you wish we could do it so easily with type 1????? My hat is off to you moms -- it probably is easier being the diabetic than being the mother of one. The worry factor must be horrendous. So you moms are my heroes. Thanks for the fun little note about Bart.
